Job Description
JOB SUMMARY:
Receive and clean unfinished products from fabricators, welders, and machine operators. These products are either being made ready for other stations in the shop or to be shipped to other locations for paint, galvanizing, or installation. The products destination will govern the type of work the cleaner will need to do on the product. This information will be given to the cleaner orally by the supervisor or Shop Foreman.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
Remove wire stubs, slag and spatter from all welds.
Butt welds, and material splices required to be flush will be ground but not have the material thickness reduced by more than 1/32”.
All corners that are sharp or that form essentially 90° angles will be ground to approximately 1/16-in. flat (beveled) surface.
Products that require minor repair or rework do to porosity, factory defect of material, or miss-fabrication will be reported to the Supervisor or Shop Foreman.
Minor repair should be performed by the cleaner when applicable, such as tack welds to repair arc strikes.
Clean work area after each job.
Operate lift truck, pallet jack
Follow oral instructions
Perform all job functions safely
ADDITIONAL RESPONSIBILITIES:
Palletize material for shipping
Install strapping, bracing, padding, or shrink-wrap on material for shipping
Other duties assigned
Overtime as needed

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:
High school graduate or equivalent
Previous experience with hand tools preferred
- Good math ability
- Good reasoning ability
- Welding Certificate preferred
