2nd Shift- Assistant Plastic Extrusion Machine Operator

Job Summary

The Assistant Plastic Extrusion Machine Operator works directly alongside the Senior Machine Operator to support line operations, learn high-level extrusion processes, and maintain line efficiency. This entry-to-mid-level role acts as a bridge across the production floor, assisting with line setups and quality checks while actively cross-training to cover duties for the Back-End Operator position as needed.

Key Responsibilities

• Line Assistance & Cross-Training
  • Support the Senior Operator with line startups, shut-offs, and parameter adjustments.
  • Train directly under the Senior Operator to learn complex setups, gauge transitions, and on-the-fly color changes.
  • Step in to fulfill Back-End Operator duties (stacking, sheet handling, material bundling, and end-of-line packaging) whenever required.
  • Assist in setting up and prepping the Deco System for scheduled order changes.
• Material Handling & Line Maintenance
  • Load raw materials, assist with blending system operations, and clean loader filters to prevent material contamination.
  • Help change screen changers and assist with cleaning vacuum systems.
  • Work with the Senior Operator to safely clean, handle, and store dies and tooling.
• Quality Control & Reporting
  • Perform regular quality checks for sheet size (length/width), gram weight, corona treatment, color, and squareness.
  • Accurately measure and log QC data on production sheets.
  • Assist in tracking raw material consumption, count sheets, and basic downtime notes.
• Safety & Workplace Standards
  • Use hand tools, utility knives, calipers, tape measures, and feeler gauges safely and correctly.
  • Strict adherence to all safety protocols, maintaining continuous use of required PPE.
  • Maintain a clean, hazard-free work area throughout the shift.

Qualifications & Requirements

• Education & Experience
  • High school diploma or equivalent; vocational background in mechanics or manufacturing preferred.
  • Prior experience in a manufacturing or production environment is a strong plus.
  • Forklift certification (or willingness to obtain certification) is preferred.
  • Bilingual skills preferred to ensure clear communication across line crews.
• Skills & Abilities
  • Solid mechanical aptitude and eagerness to learn advanced machine operations.
  • Basic math skills for measuring, basic unit conversion, and counting.
  • Ability to read work orders and follow detailed technical instructions precisely.
• Physical Requirements & Working Conditions
  • Ability to stand and walk for extended shift hours.
  • Ability to lift, push, and pull materials up to 50 lbs.
  • Flexibility to work various shifts, weekends, and overtime as required by production schedules.
